Competition Overview
-
The 2024 Third Coast Golf Club season highlights eleven 18-hole rounds over 3 distinct “seasons”: The Regular Season, The Postseason, and The Winter Match Play Series.
-
The Regular Season begins with our first event of the year and consists of the following six 18-hole tournaments.
There is also an aptly named, cumulative Club Championship Qualifier Point system that enables members to accrue points toward qualifying for Third Coast’s Club Championship in the fall.
Points are rewarded to the top-20 net scores in each event. The top 16 on the cumulative Club Championship Qualifier Point list at the end of the Regular Season will qualify for the Club Championship.
Note: to qualify for the Club Championship, you have to complete 3 or more regular season competitions.
-
The Postseason consists of two golfing events and one social event. The two golfing events are our Club Championship and an intra-club Ryder Cup called The Lighthouse Cup.
The social event is the draft for the the two Lighthouse Cup teams.
-
The Winter Match Play Series consists of three 18-hole rounds of ice-cold, head-to-head team matches.
Things are about to get heated.
Scoring, Buy-in & Winnings Overview
-
All competitions results will use NET scoring, utilizing players current handicaps.
At each Regular Season Tournament, members who place in the top-20 have the ability to earn Club Championship Qualifier points (see below for points/place details).
These Club Championship Qualifier points will compile into the overall Club Championship Qualifier standings throughout the season.
The top-16 members in the standings at the end of the Regular Season will qualify for the Club Championship.
Note: Team events will have players split their team’s place and the next spot on the leaderboard’s points.
(e.g. If a 2-person scramble team comes in first, they will add up the Club Championship Qualifier points for 1st & 2nd in for that tournament, then split them equally. The 2nd place team would then split the 3rd & 4th place points, and so on.)
In the event of a tie, the first hole scores are compared to determine a winner. If there is still a tie, each hole is compared forwards to the 18th until a winner can be determined.
-
All Regular Season team events contributing to the Club Championship Points system will be 2-person teams. The scoring will play out as follows:
The 1st place team, consisting of two teammates, will split the combined points for 1st and 2nd place in the Club Championship Points system. The 2nd place team will then split the combined points for 3rd and 4th place in the Club Championship point system. And the subsequent top-10 teams will follow this pattern successively.
-
Top-3* split the tournament purse accordingly:
1st Place: 60% of the purse
2nd Place: 25% of purse
3rd Place: 15% of purse
Note:
– Tournament winnings are only distributed to those who bought in to the tournament purse buy-in. If someome places in the top-3 and has not participated in the tournament purse buy-in, the winnings will go to the golfer in the next highest place.
– During Team events, teammates will split their respective % won 50/50 based on their finishing place.
– If one of the two winning team members did not buy into the tournament purse buy-in, 100% the winnings will be distributed to the partner who bought in.
-
Every player participating in a tournament will contribute $25 in addition to their greens fees as a part of the Tournament Purse Buy-in.
That money will contribute to that day’s tournament purse as well as contributing to the overall Club Championship purse and the Hole-in-One Piggy Bank.
-
Of the $25 tournament purse buy-in, here is the breakdown of how those funds are allocated:
$15 will contribute to that day’s tournament payout
$7 will be deposited in to to the Club Championship Pot
$1 will be deposited to Best-of-the-Rest Pot
$2 will be deposited to the Hole-in-One Piggy Bank
-
The single Club Champion–whoever has the NET lowest score in the Club Championship tournament–will receive 100% of the Club Championship Purse that has accrued from all six Regular Season tournaments. Winner takes all!
The Club Champion will also receive a prize from the Club as well as the Club Championship Trophy, with their name engraved in it–which they will hold on to until the next year’s Club Championship.
-

-
Third Coat Golf Club has a ‘Hole-in-One’ piggy bank; insurance if you will, for all you snipers.
At each and every event this season, we will deposit $3 of each participants tournament buy-in fee to the Hole-in-One Prize Pool. This 300 cent allocation will create an ongoing pot. If and when a hole-in-one occurs during a Third Coast GC event, that player will be granted the money in the current stock. It will then reset for the next pot to build. The pot will roll over year-over-year as well.
We will keep track of this total and make sure the club always has visibility of what’s at stake. Ace cam, GO!
Regular Season
-
There will be six 18-hole tournaments in the regular season.
You can find the schedule of events here.

The Lighthouse Cup is Third Coast’s annual Ryder Cup match. Two intra-club teams will square off over an 18-hole contest that will have 3 distinct matches:
1) A six-hole 2-person team alternate shot match
2) A six-hole 2-person team 4-ball match
3) A six-hole individual 1 vs. 1 match
Winning team takes the Lighthouse Cup Trophy home for the year!
-
The Lighthouse Cup teams will be decided in a draft format.
The two Lighthouse Cup Captains will be the top-2 in the Championship Qualifier Points standings. The number one seed in the standings will have first pick, and from there teams will alternate picks, until the teams have been formed.
Captains will be responsible for choosing their team’s pairings and submitting them to the Club Staff three days prior to the start of the Lightning Cup.
Winter Match Play Series
-
2-person match play (either scramble or 4-ball) teams will be assembled, and each 2-person team will play agains their direct playing partners within their foursome.
-
Net scoring, utilizing current handicaps, will remain in effect for the entire match play series.
-
Similar to the regular season, each participating member will add $25 to the tournament buy-in.
Although, instead of the pot being split, the $25 is put up against your opposing team. The winning 2-person team takes the opposing 2-person team’s buy-in money at the end of the match.
